The companies below are always ready to hire ex-convicts who are ready to work.

  1. British Airways

Airlines are known to hire felons and flying high is no other than British Airways. And although some airlines and airport-based roles now requires a high level of security clearance, the British Airways remains faithful in helping felons to find their feet in society.

At entry-level, British Airway offers corporate and call-Centre based roles. If you plan to pursue a career in aviation and aerospace engineering – BA has distinguished themselves by offering world-class apprenticeships programs in various positions. And considering we haven’t mention anything about employment as a cabin crew member – add that to the list and we can without any shadow of a doubt say – BA has endless employment opportunities.

In the airline industry, British Airway is a major player, and most people in this industry want to work with them. As a result, employment competition to become a BA cabin crew member is fierce, and as such, if your first application was turned down, we recommend securing employment and experience with a smaller airline before re-applying.

  •  Apple

In 2015, Apple came under severe public heat for their perceived discrimination against felons working on a construction project in California. The technology giant as a result was forced to state its position on the matter, and clarify its policy concerning the hiring of felons in a public statement.  Following those accusations that convicted felons weren’t considered for employment, Apple released a statement claiming they have since addressed the issue. Any restriction that once automatically disqualify applicants from employment consideration because of previous felonies was remove, this according to Apple. Additionally, Apple claim that it will make the playfield level for all applicants. Apple: “evaluate all applicants equally, on a case by case basis, as we would for any role at Apple”.

For felons, this is good news, they can, as any other person would apply for corporate roles, support roles, Apple -specific internships, in-store sales, and even advisory roles (you will work online from the comfort of your homes to help customers with their queries). Note that gaining employment as an advisor will depend on your working knowledge of Apple’s products. And of course, a problem-solving attitude and outlook.

What’s even more encouraging, since those accusations were made public then followed by Apple’s statement. More tech companies as such Facebook and Google has adopted felon friendly hiring policies. There were some uncertainties over each company position, whether their hiring policies considered felons for employment. But both tech giants have made it crystal clear by signing the US government’s Fair Chance Business Pledge that felons are gladly welcome and will be considered for employment.

  • ExxonMobil

Like most oil and gas company, there is always great demand for workers to work on offshore rigs. Working on offshore rigs is physically demanding, and under normal conditions, the average person won’t be attracted to such employment opportunity. Such situation creates the perfect opportunity for felons looking to secure a job quickly. What distinguish ExxonMobil from other companies in this industry is its size. ExxonMobil is the largest publicly traded oil and gas company in the world. Which goes with saying – there’s always employment opportunity in this company.  And by the way, ExxonMobil is not deterred with those felonies on your police record.

Although ExxonMobil employ persons to work mainly in the engineering and operational fields. There are however office-based jobs in the company’s finance, commercial and IT sectors. Also, most well-paying jobs requires you to hold at least a degree or prior experience. Nevertheless, ExxonMobil offers annual internship and apprenticeship opportunities for its employees.

In addition to being one of the fastest growing car rental company, Enterprise also oversees used car sales, commercial fleet management, and commercial truck rental operations.

As in with all the companies discussed in this list, Enterprise is felon friendly, there have been instances where former and current employees suggested that due to the job nature, felons convicted of certain driving related felonies should be automatically disqualify during background check.  However, Enterprise remains felon friendly, especially if you possess strong inter-personal skills.

  • IBM

Founded in 1911, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)is among the oldest US tech companies to date. Being a multinational information technology company, IBM produces and sells computers, and most things related to computers (both hard and software).

IBM’s headquartered is based in Armonk, New York, but the company operates in over 170 countries with thousands of employees including many convicted felons

We highly recommend IBM for those with an appetite for hands on technology. If you are tech savvy, IBM have room for you, this company has always and is looking to recruit new talent. In the tech industry, employment possibilities are endless, not only with IBM, but IBM remains one of the most diverse tech company worldwide, but especially in the US. As mentioned before, IBM builds everything computer, both software and hardware, but to get a feel of what this company can offer you, here are a few job titles: Digital Analytics Developer, Physical Design Engineer, Software Developer – Cloud Private for Data and Data Integration Developer. These are just a few among the tons of others. It’s however important to note that although IBM doesn’t discriminate against convicted felons, there are certain felonies such as fraud, embezzlement, bribery, and cybercrime that may result in your application being rejected.

  • Sony

Being the world’s leading manufacturers in consumer electronic products, this Japanese conglomerate have offices and factories in many countries around the globe.  In addition to providing employment opportunities in areas such as game design, music production, and film production, Sony is felon friendly. They employ convicted felons worldwide. Ifyou plan on giving Sony a try, we’d advise you to apply in the electronics, and mobile communications technologies sector – Sony employs the bulk of their recruits to work in these sectors.

As with most things in life, it’s good to be realistic, and being realistic means being prepared to accept a less than desirable job at the beginning.

The truth is, no matter the scope of their offenses, whether there were considered serious or non-serious, felons will often receive a raw deal when it comes to securing an employment. Add that together with them being labeled a felon, and no wonder 2/3 return to prison within two years of their release.

But there is hope, applying at any of these companies can and will prove fruitful with persistence. Once accepted to work with any of these companies, do your best, work hard and honest, and prove that you are committed and reliable – we haveno doubt that you won’t move up the ranks.

And just in case you want to work for a company that hasn’t made it’s hiring policies public, you can go ahead and give it a shot. Some companies hire felons even though they don’t openly state it.
